In November 2002 three women got together over coffee and contemplated forming a dragon boat team for the breast cancer survivors of Southeast New Brunswick. Inspired by a presentation about dragon boating by Bosom Buddies of Nova Scotia, other breast cancer survivors quickly got onboard the project. They thought launching a dragon boat in the waters off New Brunswick was a wonderful idea and were thrilled to realize so did their community.
Although 'tit Bateau only came into being as a team in January 2003, we have already become friends, a support system for each other and public educators about breast cancer and that was even before we had our boat!
So here we are now, paddles in hand, joining the voices of other breast cancer survivor teams across Canada to increase public awareness of breast cancer.
We are also strengthening ourselves emotionally and physically while having a lot of fun!
